Sports injury massage can be defined as the
skilled manual therapeutic application of soft tissue manipulative techniques for
treatment, maintenance and prevention of injury. Sports injuries are no different
essentially from injuries arrived at in other ways.
However, certain injuries and conditions have a
habit of cropping up in sport and each particular sport has its own collection of regular
injuries.
Injuries relating to sports and exercise are by no
means restricted to the elite athlete. The Sunday footballer, twice a week aerobic devotee
and badminton playing pensioner all deserve the same high quality of care the professional
sports person receives.
We are all, quite rightly, encouraged to remain
active and are as likely to complain of a frozen shoulder affecting our tennis serve or
golf swing as much as it does the activities of everyday living.
